How much passport validity do I need?

  • The legal minimum: your passport must be valid for at least 60 days after the last day of your permitted stay. For a 90-day stay, that means at least 150 days on the day you arrive.
  • The safe choice: the ministry advises at least 6 months from your arrival date, and some airlines check this at departure.
  • Citizens of some European countries can enter with a national identity card instead of a passport; check whether yours is one of them.

How does the Turkish e-Visa work?

  • Apply only on the official site, evisa.gov.tr. Other websites that look official charge extra fees for the same visa.
  • The e-Visa is for tourism and business trips. Work and study visas are issued by Turkish consulates.
  • Print the e-Visa or keep it on your phone, and check that the passport number on it matches your passport.

Arriving in Istanbul

  • Have your return or onward ticket and your hotel address ready; officers may ask.
  • Medicines: carry them in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription.
  • Cash: if you carry a large amount, check Turkish customs rules on declaring it.
  • Do not overstay. Staying longer than allowed can lead to a fine and a ban on future entry.
